What is Temazcal?
The Temazcal is a great ancestral medicine of the peoples of Central and North America — the Navajo, Lakota, Shoshone and Cheyenne peoples, among others, know it as the "Inipi". Its name comes from the Nahuatl (temaz-calli) and means "Temple of Healing".
In the Aztec tradition, the Temazcal is a way of life: from birth until before death, it accompanies the great moments of human experience. In the ceremony, medicinal plants, prayer and song are used to channel the healing power of nature.
On a physical level it is detoxifying: it cleanses and unblocks the respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, musculoskeletal and endocrine systems, supports the internal organs, and rejuvenates the body's cells.
On a mental level, it helps relieve stress, depression, insomnia, fears and anxiety. On an energetic and spiritual level, it helps to release stagnant and negative energies, and to reconnect with the healing, love, peace, harmony and abundance that we all carry within us.
The ceremony moves through the four corners of the universe, the four elements and the four cycles of the planet, culminating in a physical and mental rebirth.
What to Expect
The full experience lasts 2–3 hours
Opening the space
The ceremony begins with a grounding ritual: energies are aligned, chakras are opened, and each participant sets their intention for the session.
The Temazcal
We enter the Temazcal — a sacred steam chamber, similar to a steam room but rooted in ceremony and healing. The heat, the plants and the song create a space of deep transformation.
The cleansing
On emerging, an energetic cleansing seals the process and helps you to integrate the experience.
Important
The Temazcal is not suitable for pregnant women or those with heart conditions. If you are unsure whether it is right for you, please message Darío before booking.
